Ukraine Gives Germany Priority Weapons List: Patriot, IRIS-T and F-16 Munitions

Ukraine has formally presented Germany with a list of priority weapons requirements that includes missiles for Patriot and IRIS-T air-defense systems as well as munitions for F-16 fighter aircraft.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Evgeniy Khmara handed the list to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during talks in Kyiv, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence.

Germany’s Role in Ukraine’s Defense

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry said German assistance in 2026 amounts to €11.5 billion, approximately one-third of the military assistance Ukraine has received from partners this year and the largest contribution among partner countries.

Berlin has played a particularly important role in air defense. Ukraine operates German-made IRIS-T systems in addition to U.S.-designed Patriot systems supplied by partners.

Five Defense Industry Documents

Following the Ukrainian-German Business Forum, Khmara signed five documents with German defense companies.

According to the ministry, implementation will enable Ukraine to procure missiles, precision-guided munitions, radar systems and other weapons.

The F-16 Supply Chain

The inclusion of F-16 munitions highlights the expanding role of Western combat aircraft in Ukraine’s defense. Aircraft require a continuing supply of weapons, spare parts, maintenance capacity and trained personnel.

The same principle applies to air defense: sophisticated launchers are effective only when interceptor stocks can keep pace with incoming threats.

A War of Industrial Capacity

The conflict has increasingly become a contest of industrial endurance. Ukraine and its partners must maintain enough interceptors, aviation munitions and replacement equipment to sustain operations over long periods.

The list delivered to Germany offers a clear picture of Kyiv’s immediate priorities: air-defense missiles, aviation ammunition and a stronger defense-production partnership.
