U.S. Approves Possible $2.68 Billion Air Defense Sale to Ukraine

The United States has approved a possible $2.68 billion Foreign Military Sale to Ukraine aimed at strengthening the country’s air-defense capabilities as Russia continues missile and drone attacks.

The proposed package includes air-defense missiles, counter-drone radars, launcher modifications, spare parts, software, transportation and technical support.

The sale is intended to strengthen Ukraine’s ability to respond to current and future aerial threats.

Why it matters

Air defense remains one of Ukraine’s most urgent military requirements. Russian forces continue to use missiles and large numbers of drones against Ukrainian cities, infrastructure and energy facilities.

The proposed transaction still has to move through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales process and congressional review.
