Ukraine Reports 1,900 Russian Personnel and 1,288 UAVs Lost in Latest Daily General Staff Estimate

KYIV — Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence reported on October 1 that the General Staff estimated Russian forces lost approximately 1,900 personnel and 1,288 operational-tactical unmanned aerial vehicles during the previous day.

The figures are official Ukrainian estimates and have not been independently verified by UkraineView.

Daily figures reported by Ukraine

According to the Ministry of Defence, the September 30 daily estimate included approximately 1,900 Russian personnel, 36 artillery systems, three multiple-launch rocket systems, one air-defense asset, five cruise missiles and 1,288 UAVs.

The General Staff also reported 524 additional vehicles and fuel tanks, 14 unmanned ground vehicles, four pieces of special equipment and one armored fighting vehicle.

Cumulative Ukrainian estimate

As of October 1, Ukraine estimated total Russian personnel losses since February 24, 2022 at approximately 1,535,870.

The same Ukrainian dataset listed cumulative losses of 12,388 tanks, 25,464 armored fighting vehicles, 50,555 artillery systems, 2,174 multiple-launch rocket systems and 1,683 air-defense systems.

For air targets, the ministry listed 443 aircraft, 356 helicopters, 541,383 operational-tactical UAVs and 5,126 cruise missiles. It also listed 35 warships and boats and two submarines.

How to read the numbers

Battlefield casualty and equipment-loss figures are difficult to verify in real time. Ukraine’s General Staff publishes its own estimate each day, while Russia publishes different figures and independent organizations use separate methodologies.

For that reason, UkraineView presents these numbers specifically as Ukrainian government estimates rather than as independently established totals.

Drone warfare remains central

The reported daily number of UAV losses illustrates the growing scale of unmanned systems in the war. Both sides use drones for reconnaissance, targeting, long-range strikes, logistics and direct attacks on battlefield positions.

The Ministry of Defence noted that its data are being updated.
